Mission - Bulgarian Anatomical Society

The Bulgarian Anatomical Society (BAS) is one of the oldest scientific medical societies, bringing together anatomists in Bulgaria. Its members include faculty from the departments of anatomy, histology, and embryology at all medical universities, as well as researchers from institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). The Society maintains close scientific ties with international anatomical associations through the participation of its members in committees, international congresses, symposia, and conferences, as well as by organizing scientific events with international participation in Bulgaria. Its honorary members include a number of world-renowned morphologists.

The main activity of the Bulgarian Anatomical Society (BAS) in Bulgaria is the organization of scientific events. The congresses of international anatomical associations organized by the BAS in Bulgaria serve as a testament to the recognition of our morphological science (the French Anatomical Society, 1969 in Sofia, the 76th Congress of the Anatomische Gesellschaft, 1981 in Varna, the 1st International Symposium on Experimental Morphology in collaboration with the European Association of Experimental Morphology, 1995 in Sofia, and the 1st and 3rd Symposia on Clinical Anatomy in Varna).

The National Congresses are the Society’s highest-level forums, attended not only by Bulgarian morphologists but also by numerous foreign scholars. They are held every two years in various university towns across Bulgaria. Between congresses, thematic symposia and conferences are organized (Clinical Anatomy, Anthropology).

BAS aims to contribute to the development of Bulgarian morphological science by organizing scientific events, to assist its members in establishing contacts with foreign morphological institutes, and to contribute to the streamlining and modernization of the teaching of anatomy, histology, and embryology at medical universities and colleges. The primary focus of the BAD is to provide up-to-date, practical information to the anatomical community.

The society's regular meetings serve as a forum for exchanging information on morphology.

Last but not least, one of the BAS’s missions is to inform the public about the results, benefits, and implications of new research.
